Project Summary:

The gentleman was working as a driver and had a car accident. Apart from other injuries he also broke his leg. Since there was no help he had to fund his own treatment and ended up by selling his small house for about Rs 180,000. The leg is still not cured. Now he is out of job, walking on cruthches selling car cleaning cloths on the roads. His daily income of about Rs 400 to 500 is not enough to sustain his family and to get further treatment. From his first wife he has one daughter who is 22 years old. After death of his first wife he married again and has two kids (ages 3 and 2) from his second wife. The elder daughter was keen to study but could not fulfil her dreams due to the family's financial conditions. They can't even afford milk for the little ones.

Project Objective:

To get his leg treated so that he is able to walk without crutches and start driving again in order to find a decent job and sustain his family.

Project Status:

Medical assessment done at Ghurki Hospital. Suggested surgery is Knee Arthrodesis. Estimated cost is around Rs 90,000.
Suggested surgical procedure will lead to immobilization of his knee. Knee replacement has been ruled out by doctors because of the location of his fracture above knee.
Household ration will be been given to him for his family since he will not be able to work until he recovers from his surgery.
Challenges ahead include paying his house rent & loans, finding a job for him after surgery, etc.
14 Jan 2020: Admitted for surgery for pus discharge from distal femur with sinus on lateral aspect of right knee.
20 Jan 2020: Discharged from hospital.
29 Jan 2020: Wound giving some problem.
30 Jan 2020: Got him checked at Ghurki again. Medications given.
13 Feb 2020: Examination at Allied Hospital, Faislabad. Wound not healing.
25 Feb 2020: Admitted in Allied Hospital for surgical debridement of wound.
27 Feb 2020: Operated again for wound debridement.
04 Mar 2020: Wound not healing, still hospitalized.
07 Mar 2020: Shifted to Ghurki Hospital Lahore from Faislabad
08 Mar 2020: Advised wound dressing till 2 weeks.
14 Mar 2020: Discharged with instructions on wound healing care. Wound Improving.
25 Mar 2020: Wound is gradually healing.
15 Apr 2020: Admitted to hospital again due to wound infection. It has been decided that until he is able to walk and work again he will be provided with some financial assistance so that he can run his household. Financial assistance given for April.
27 Apr 2020: Operated again to remove the ilizarov for controlling repeated infections.
05 May 2020: Discharged from hospital. Advised medication and dressing after 1 week.
10 May 2020: Found a house on rent @8000 per month excluding bills.
16 May 2020: Paid for rickshaw transport that also offer him stretcher service since he is not supposed to walk for 6 weeks.
02 Jun 2020: Payment done for household & transportation for the month of June. Leg is still infected, unless it is controlled, there is going to be no healing of bone as advised by the doctor. Visiting the hospital regularly for treatment.
11 Jun 2020: Medicines payment reimbursed.
21 Jun 2020: Advised another surgery to locate and remove the source of infected bone causing the problem. Due COVID-19, will have to wait for two months for this surgery. Advise to stop all antibiotics but continue the routine wound dressing procedure.

01 Sep 2020: Getting treatment for tuberculous infection.

18 Nov 2020: Examined in Ghurki Hospital. Needs to be admitted in Ghurki Hospital Lahore.
02 Dec 2020: Admission planned on 7th Dec.
14 Dec 2020: Discharged from hospital. Surgery and biopsy done. Waiting for reports.
08 Jan 2021: Able to walk on his own. Monthly household support terminated. Medical Support continues.
18 Feb 2021: Admitted to Ghurki again for surgery to remove the infected bone which is still causing the problem.
22 Feb 2021: Surgery done.
03 Feb 2021: Drainage removed check up done. Waiting for biopsy report.
17 Mar 2021: Staphylococcus aureus is still causing the infection. Follow ups are done after every 15 days for monitoring and control. Next visit planned in April.
30 Mar 2021: Follow up planned on 31st March. Wound was better but fever is not under control.
20 Apr 2021: He has reported that condition is not good.
28 Apr 2021: Compiled his case with 16 months of treatment history to be sent to various doctors for review and solutions.
07 May 2021: Made arrangements for treatment in Allied Hospital Faislabad under special monitoring. Visited hospital and got the wound cleaned again. This time no stitches were applied. Instructed to get the dressing again from no other place but Allied Hospital.
18 May 2021: Advised him to take same medicines and come again on 21st for detailed checkup.
22 May 2021: Advised to visit again on 25th for checkup by the senior professor.
25 May 2021: Wound cleaned. Called again on 02 Jun 2021. Advised to take the same medicines. No new prescription has been given.
02 June 2021: Advised to get admitted on 09 June 2021 for surgery. Advised to continue with the same medicines for one week.
09 June 2021: Doctor was on leave. Advised to come on 15 June 2021.
15 June 2021: Doctor refused to discuss the case on call. Advised to get admitted in hospital on 22 June 2021.
22 June 2021: Admitted in hospital. Surgery planned on 24th June.
24 June 2021: Surgery done on 24th June. Expected to be discharged on 30th June 2021.
26 June 2021: Discharged with, antibiotics tablets placed in the wound. Follow up on 6th July.
06 July 2021: Checkup done. Kept antibiotic again in the wound and advised to visit on 8th July 2021.
08 July 2021: Wound is much better. Advised to come again on 10th July for removal of stitches.
09 July 2021: Due bleeding from wound went to Civil Hospital emergency. Doctor operated on him.
11 July 2021: Plans to take discharge from civil hospital and go to Allied hospital.
13 July 2021: Went to Allied Hospital. Doctor has advised him to take oral medicines, kept some antibiotics in his wound and asked him to come again for checkup on 16th July 2021.
16 July 2021: Doctor has advised him to take complete bed rest for 15 days, take antibiotics on time and ask him to visit again for checkup after Eid holidays.
28 July 2021: Doctor has advised him to take rest and take care of plaster cast for 6 weeks. They will open the plaster after six week. His next checkup is due on 10th August, 2021.
13 Aug 2021: Suffering from high fever. Doctor advised to keep the the plaster on for three weeks. Next follow up due on 27th Aug 2021.
08 Sep 2021: Wound is better but he has to use the same medicines for one month. Next visit is due on 10th September, 2021.
13 Sep 2021: His bone is completely damaged. Doctor has given him antibiotics and suggested for his leg amputation.
23 Sep 2021: Wound is healing. Next follow up on 28th September for reviewing the decision about amputation.
28 Oct 2021: Operated at Ghurki. Infected bone removed. Ilizarov installed again for 9 months.
06 Nov 2021: Medicines provided for post operative wound dressing and care.
03 Jan 2022: Went for checkup last week. Doctor advised him to take medicines for 15 days as his wound was not healing. Medicines provided.
09 Feb 2022: Progress Wound Infection.
25 Mar 2022: Medical checkup planned at Ghurki on 30th March.
31 Mar 2022: Medical checkup done. Advised to get admitted for wound cleaning.
20 Jun 2022: Advance cheque Rs 25,000 realized for medical checkup and CT scan at Doctors Hospital Lahore. Expenditure was 21,397. Balance 3603 adjusted in his monthly family support (see wn127).
04 Oct 2022: Cheque (Rs 14,415) realized for his medical checkup, X-rays and medicines.
14 Oct 2022: Medical checkup done at Doctor's Hospital Lahore. Signs of improvement seen.
19 Jan 2023: Medical checkup done at Doctor's Hospital Lahore. Cost Rs 8,114.
28 Sep 2023: Operated at Faislabad, ilizarov removed. Required medicines dispatched to Faislabad.
